Services Offered
I work primarily from an individual psychotherapy modality. Family members may join a session or provide collateral information when appropriate and with your consent. In most child and adolescent therapy arrangements, parent and family work is relevant and encouraged.
Treatment always begins with an initial evaluation, which typically entails two to three standard length (45-minute) appointments. The initial evaluation provides me the information needed to make a proper diagnosis and gives us the chance develop a mutually agreeable initial treatment plan. It also offers you the opportunity to evaluate your level of comfort and decide for yourself whether you wish to proceed. Thus, following the evaluation you will have the choice to "opt in" to a course of treatment. I believe this initial process builds a collaborative foundation that gives therapy the best chance of being effective. A standard course of psychotherapy entails weekly 45-minute sessions unless more frequent contact is indicated. In my experience, meeting less than weekly is more appropriate for maintenance or "booster" sessions following a full course of therapy. The duration of treatment is dependent on the nature of the presenting issues as well as the patient's goals. We will have ample time to discuss these issues and any initial questions you would like to raise during the evaluation process. |
